In life we want to know how to do just about anything but when it comes to making money, we REALLY want to know how to make it.  In today’s economy more then ever there is a stronger need for a more permanent income.

But have you ever thought of having more than 1?

Here is a great video from Cameron Herold at TedxEdmonton just a few months ago.

It is amazing how he points out that our children have an unlimited potential hiding inside of them if we just groom them a bit and actually stop telling them “no” so much.  I agree that we must look into the parenting we do and the education that we allow our children to be around so that it may have some basis to becoming and entrepreneur.  Why not allow them to learn that they can be self sufficient at and early age instead of relying on others to provide for themselves.

As parents we should teach them that it is OK to make money and take charge of your financial freedom at a very young age.  The more freedom we give them at an early age, the more freedom they will have as adults.  Just imagine what leaders of the future we can start to groom.

Here is one idea: Our son, Reese while in kindergarten at the age of 5 1/2 wanted an iPod.  I know that is going a bit overboard at 5 1/2, but you should see him listen to the music and dance.  He also listens to personal development on his iPod as well as books.  Anyways, in order to get the iPod he had to come up with 50% of the money.  So for extra credit in his school they could be a “Young Author” and so he did.  His book title was “7 Fun Things About Soccer.”  We helped him put it together and then gave him the idea that he could sell that book to his grandparents (he has 3 sets!).  So that is exactly what he did, he created 4 copies of his books, numbered them (we got to keep 1 of 4) and sold the other 3 to his grandparents for $10 each.  Now I never made $30 that fast at 5 1/2 years old.

Good Morning or Afternoon -

Love them or hate them, your choice!  Mine is love them, well maybe it’s more of an admiration.  I’m talking about Bill Gates and Warren Buffet.

Maybe I love what they did (built a company and changed and industry with passion from the bottom up).  Maybe I love what they have achieved (become the wealthiest men on the planet ~ depending upon the year).   And most importantly what I love about him and what I admire the most is what he continues to do (give away their fortune for those in need).  Don’t hate the men for their money or power but love them for the ability to know you to can do this if you put your mind to it.  Remember, I am pretty sure they put their pants on the same way we do in the am hours.

They sound a lot like Andrew Carnegie (if you haven’t read Napoleon Hills, Think and Grow Rich I suggest you run out and get a copy as well if you have read it, make sure you pull it out give it another look).  The similarities between Mr. Carnegie and Mr. Gates and Mr. Buffet for that matter are amazing.  It has been said many times that Success Leaves Clues.  I believe they both followed them and I believe we all should as well.

Regardless of your feelings towards the men, did you have the opportunity to watch this CNBC special?

If you don’t want to watch it that is fine but quickly it was an interview that took place as a town hall Q&A at Columbia University in New York.  Not only was Mr. Gates on the stage but you were in for a double scoop of fun because Mr. Warren Buffet was also there.  One stage and two of the most powerful and influential men of our current times.

During this Q&A session both men were asked many questions but one stuck with me.  Mr. Gates was asked a very simple question: What is the most important thing you do every day?  His answer was two fold:

1. “I learn and I read!”
2. “I surround myself only with those people that are immersed in the topic that I care about most!”  It sounds as though he has a daily Mastermind.

So I will let you ask yourself what the most important “thing/task” is that you do on a daily basis.  I would however like to know (please leave a comment) what is the last book that you read and what was the biggest takeaway you had from it and have you ever participated in a Mastermind?

Just wanted to make a personal post for Coach John Wooden and his unfortunate passing yesterday (October 14, 1910 – June 4, 2010).  I never had the opportunity to meet him in person but have learned a lot from others that have.  The world has lost one of its greatest leaders and compassionate souls in Coach Wooden.  His teachings on leadership and success are fantastic and life changing.  If you haven’t read about his Pyramid of Success do it now!

There are some very influential quotes that I have held strong to my heart from Mr. Wooden. If we all lived our life in the passion for excellence that he did and expected his players to do so we would truly be in a better place.

Here are just a few of my favorite John Wooden quotes:

1. Don’t let what you cannot do interfere with what you can do.
2. Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are.

I just wanted to let you all have a listen to my favorite chapter (Chapter 7 – Serenity)  from James Allen’s famous book, “As A Man Thinketh”.  It is a brilliant book and this final chapter has given me great insight to ways in which we can use our thoughts to decrease the stresses in our life.

Take a couple of minutes out of your day and enjoy.

The people over at TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) always have great ideas and I just wanted to pass Richard St. Johns’ ideas of Success over to you.   However simplistic this video may appear, it is well worth sharing the ideas with your children (a language warning on a few segments).  I suggest watching it first and then deciding if you want your children to hear the language.  Message is fantastic, however the delivery you may not prefer.  This message is so important  because we must pass information onto our children at an early age so they can model the life you want them to enjoy and why not start with 8 Simple Steps to Success.

Will Smith talks of Success, Focus, Fear, Hard Work and Dreams and how we can all have what we want in life if we just BELIEVE!  This is great insight into the success of his career and how it started when he was young and has continued to improve upon it today.

Will Smith reveals himself as an extremely intellectual thinker and the fact that he wants the best for himself and everyone else for that matter.  Will makes it real simple: figure out what you want and work harder than anyone else who is in your way to getting what you want and truly deserve.

I personally love this video and now I am going to have to watch Pursuit of Happyness and 7 Pounds again.  Both movies were filled with inspiration.

As 2010 approaches I have decided to do something in which I never have and that is reflect back on the last year as well as the past decade.  Why haven’t I done that you ask, well the truth is I never really thought of it but life has changed for the better so much in the last 10 years that I think it is important to remember where I was and where I will be going and why.

There are many things I am proud of as far as accomplishments go but the two that stand out the most are my marriage to my beautiful bride, Theresa and the birth of our son, Reese.  These two moments have shaped me and will continue to shape me for the rest of my life and I couldn’t be happier.

Don’t get me wrong as there were a few bumps in the road along the way, but it has been worth the smiles and struggles as I know they are lessons that propel me into a better future.

The biggest takeaway I have for myself and would love for you to get is that you must DECIDE on how you want your future to look and unfold.

Have you been dreaming or visualizing your ideal 2010?

Start to visualize all that you want to have in regards to a bigger, better and brighter 2010.  With that moment of decision it must be followed by action steps that move you closer to achieving your goals and dreams!

DECIDE today that you will EXPECT a better life for 2010 and beyond!

Decide today to live life on your terms which should be full of fun, adventure, romance, laughs, some tears of joy and fulfilling all your dreams!

PS: I was just about to hit publish when I had a thought. You probably already have or will hear a lot about New Year’s Resolutions.

If you are one of the few that make them and stick to them I am extremely proud of you.

If you make them and crack, I am still proud of you for the attempt, but you did not DECIDE to stick to it, or you did not have a big enough WHY.  Your WHY must drive you into action to achieve what it is that you desire.

So with that said, try this on for a 2010 Resolution.  Don’t do it unless you truly mean it as I don’t want you getting all up in your own face for not following through.  When you are ready you will make the decision, but just think about it, what do you have to lose?

I will ask you to look for 4 things to start out 2010 on the correct and positive track:

1. Your Favorite Place:  this can be as simple as a chair on your back porch or a spot on the beach in St. Augustine Florida.  If you can, go there everyday and if it is not physically possible, go there in your mind and just relax and enjoy life and be grateful everyday that you have the best life because you have DECIDED to!
2. Your Favorite Book: not a book with Fabio on the cover or one that deals with wizards or vampires but one that will stretch your mind and make you grow.  Here are just a few of my personal favorite authors in the personal development arena: Napoleon Hill, Wallace Wattles, James Allen, John Maxwell and Bob Proctor to name just a few.  Check back at the blog once in awhile as you will see some reviews of my favorite books.
3. A positive Affirmation:  try this one on for size ~~ I am so happy and grateful now that 2010 is the year I decide to BE, DO or HAVE ….   (you fill in the blanks and keep it positive).
4. A Mentor and/or Coach:  this truly is one of the best choices you will make.  If there is something in life you want to DO, BE or HAVE getting a coach can help you achieve this.  Just having someone there for accountability can change your outcomes for 2010.  Heck, give me a call or email me, I love to help!
